Lake County Commissioner

Elected in 2010 as first female commissioner in Lake County. Former occupation Dental Hygienist. Leadville/ Lake County native having lived through the boom and bust years of the mining industry, now known as a bedroom/  tourist community. Volunteer of many local organizations. Current hobbies are trapshooting with my husband and camping with our two pugs.


Ed Norden - Vice Chairman

Fremont County Commissioner

Ed Norden was re-elected to a third term as District 3 Fremont County Commissioner in 2012.   Ed was a radio broadcast-journalist for 32 years having worked ten years in Nebraska before moving to Canon City in 1982.     Ed grew up on a farm in Kansas and graduated from Fort Hays State in 1972.     Ed's wife Janice is payroll clerk at St. Thomas More Hospital in Canon City.   Their oldest son Matt is a BLM wildland firefighter in Canon City and his wife Cassie teaches at the Penrose School.   Their youngest son Luke teaches school and coaches baseball in Mitchell, South Dakota.   His wife Amy works at a Mitchell blood bank.   In his spare time Ed can be found riding his bicycle around Fremont County.

Christy Veltrie

Mayor of Westcliffe

Christy graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a BA in Business Administration in 1994. She was the General Manager of The Historic Pines Ranch in Custer County from December 94-July 2001.  In December 1999, she and her husband purchased K&L Disposal and turned it into Veltrie Disposal Services.  Christy has served as a Town of Westcliffe Trustee since 2004.  In 2010, she was elected as Mayor.  She enjoys volunteering and served as the president of High Country Recycling for two years.  Christy was also a founding member of the organization.  She is a past president of the Custer County Merchants and Chamber of Commerce.  She was an alternate on the Custer County Planning Commission for one year and is currently a member of the Custer County Tourism Board.  These positions are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.  In June, Christy opened a new business called Valley Feeds.   She also volunteers with an organization called Pet Project WMV.  They offer low cost spay and neuter vouchers and give away pet food at the local share center one day per month. They also have a very active TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) program for feral cats in the community.
